About Sudden Cardiac Arrest in Young Athletes
Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of sudden death in young athletes. A majority of athletes are symptom free prior to their SCA and, in fact, often appear to be in superb physical condition. Yet, the American Academy of Pediatrics estimates as many as 7,000 young adults under the age of 25 will die of SCA this year. Intense training increases risk, and SCA in young athletes often occurs during practice sessions—a period when it is unlikely trained medical professionals will be on hand to intervene when a young athlete's life is at risk.
Fortunately, heart conditions that trigger Sudden Cardiac Arrest are both detectable and treatable.
How the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Testing Process Works
Athletic Testing Solutions (ATS) provides a non-invasive testing process that is affordable, accurate and convenient. While adhering to traditional medical testing practices, ATS provides a mobile onsite-testing clinic. Testing is quick, usually taking less than 20 minutes. Easy, on-line registration through the Athletic Testing Solutions website allows athletes to reserve a time that best suits their schedule and make payment for the testing.
Testing includes a Blood Pressure Check, an Electrocardiogram (EKG) and an Echocardiogram (Ultrasound of the Heart). Our medical staff is comprised of Board Certified Cardiologist, Registered Nurses and Registered Ultrasound Technicians. Confidential results are delivered to each participant, alerting those who may be at risk.
